Mary Bragg Elementary School is proud of its diverse student population and long tradition of academic excellence. Hard working teachers, high expectations in the classroom and strong parent support at home have helped Bragg students achieve academically. We are pleased to have been named a STAR School by California Businesses for Education Excellence six years in a row! This award is given for demonstrating high student academic achievement, making significant progress toward closing the achievement gaps among all of our students, and increasing and sustaining grade level proficiency over five years. Congratulations Bragg School!
We are also proud of our 2017 CAASPP State Testing results. In English/Language Arts, 68% of our students met or exceeded standard. In mathematics, 62% met or exceeded standards. A school-wide focus on the Common Core Standards integrate technology skills into our curriculum. We do this by providing time weekly to build and enhance technology skills. This year our 4th, 5th, and 6th grade classes will participate in the Technology Integration Project, providing 1:1 Chromebooks for every student. Our goal is to prepare our students with the skills and understanding they will need to be successful in middle school, high school, and beyond.
Bragg School is pleased to be in our third year of Positive Behavior Intervention and Support (PBIS) with a focus on teaching and supporting positive behavior. Our staff has identified our core values, and aligned our definitions and expectations for students TK-6. We are honored to have again received the Silver Award from the California PBIS Coalition for our successful implementation of PBIS school-wide.
Student recognition is another important part of our educational program. Six times a year awards are presented to students for academic achievement and good citizenship. Parents are invited to our award celebrations so that we can recognize and honor our students together.
Mary Bragg is the home to a very dedicated and supportive PTA. Last year, Bragg's PTA donated $37,000 in supplies and services to our school. We work collaboratively to host events such as Green Pancake Breakfast, Reading Picnic, Jog-a-Thon, International Night, Carnival, and family nights held throughout the year.
We greatly appreciate our community partnerships, as they support the tenets of our school. We partner with Cerritos College Teacher TRAC program by providing observation hours and fieldwork opportunities for aspiring teachers as part of their requirements for the credential pathway. We also partner with the Long Beach State University Physical Education Department by providing training days on a regular basis. In addition, the City of Cerritos Parks and Recreation leaders come and lead organized games at lunch monthly and support healthy lifestyle choices.
Great students, fantastic teachers, supportive parents, strong community partnerships and enriching activities make Mary Bragg Elementary School a very special place for every student to learn and grow.
